Terra Guidance provides a full range of geo-analytical services for horizontal wells on real-time data streams and historical data sets. From classic mudlogging to remote geosteering with a variety of on-site and remote services, we can build a custom package to provide you with exactly what you need before, during and after your drilling operation.
Founded in 2011, Terra Guidance is a unique U.S.-based geosteering firm that recognizes an emerging market in need of experienced geosteering specialists. With a revolutionary approach to human resources, our corporate structure allows us to attract and retain highly skilled individuals with the self-discipline necessary for high-quality results.
All of our specialists have proven records of fieldwork and three or more years of experience in well placement technologies before joining Terra Guidance. This model enables us to leverage talented, experienced specialists to the operators who need them.
Our client satisfaction has led to our rapid growth, allowing us to expand into more traditional on-site services such as mudlogging and newer cost saving services such Remote Gas Logging. With Terra Guidance, you can rest assured that a trusted team – with fresh eyes and sharp minds – is watching your well around the clock.
Geosteering, also known as well placement, is the process by which geologists guide the wellbore by analyzing real-time, down-hole data such as gamma or resistivity.
Modern drilling technology enables faster drilling rates in tighter target zones, which makes geosteering a necessity in today’s unconventional operations. With wells covering more than 200 feet per hour these days and target zones as small as 6 feet, you need eyes on your operation 24/7.
Terra Guidance provides multiple services that enable us to watch over your operation in a variety of ways, working within any budget you may have.
With access to real-time information from the rig site, our remote teams can make informed decisions about well position and drilling targets – and we can bring you up-to-date at a moment’s notice. Our specialists can provide premium analyses remotely, on-site, or from your office.

Remote Gas Logging
Remote Gas Logging (RGL) is a service in which gas detection is monitored 24/7 by off-site personnel allowing for quality, properly lagged gas data. Equipment is serviced by rig hands or regional techs when necessary. RGL offers a cost-effective solution for production drilling when cutting samples are no longer needed.
Benefits of Gas Detection
Gas detection provides value with added rig safety. When properly lagged, the gas data can help determine potential pay zones as well as help to fine-tune target zones in horizontal wells.
Scott Waggoner, CEO, has a history of leading new venture teams, including 15 years in the oil and gas industry and eight years with Pason Systems. Before Terra Guidance, Scott worked as a project coordinator in operations, sales, marketing, and new-product-to-market development in the United States and Canada.
Scott specializes in leading new teams into multidisciplinary geologic services. He has worked with remote geologic-based models from Houston to Calgary. He holds a B.S. degree in geology.
Bart Critser manages sales, support, and operations. After earning a master’s degree in geology, Bart entered the oil industry as a field engineer before migrating into geosteering. He has in-depth experience in geosteering with multiple software packages, using everything from bulk gamma to full triple combo image log analysis.
Bart’s basin experience includes Permian, Eagle Ford, Anadarko, DJ, Niobrara, Uitnah, Powder River, Marcellus, Utica, Haynesville, Bakken, and Three Forks, as well as in the Middle East and South America.
Michelle Foster runs operations, and has more than 10 years of oil and gas industry experience and seven years as a geosteering consultant. Michelle has successfully steered horizontal oil and gas wells throughout the United States by consistently maintaining maximum wellbore exposure to pay intervals ranging from thin 5-foot carbonate zones within basins lacking structural complexity to 16-foot chalk beds in structurally complex basins.
Michelle works closely with our teams to maximize near 100 percent of the wellbore within the pay zone while maintaining the integrity of the well.
